Bargaining Update – July 23, 2015
Dear WEASO Sisters and Brothers:
We have just concluded the 4th day of bargaining and the WEA’s position has not materially moved since Day 1.  They continue to insist on a one-year deal with no changes to the salary schedule, leaving 65% of us with no increase in compensation, and all of us–even those who would advance a step on the schedule–with a financial loss due to inflation.
Management came to the table yesterday without any substantive response to our proposal of July 7, other than to say that it “preferred to maintain the current contract language,” even with respect to WEASO’s non-financial proposals.  Today, WEASO reiterated our bargaining position. After a brief caucus, management returned to say it would meet with its policy advisory committee next Thursday to “reassess” its positions so that when we return to the table on August 4, we can “move this thing forward”.
So, the bottom line is that it remains to be seen whether the WEA values us and our commitment to the organization or whether it expects us to work even harder in the coming year (bargaining with lighthouse locals, assisting on NBI 18 strikes, working on the 8 or 10 “buckets” and “action items”, and doing the agency fee member engagement work) while suffering financial losses to inflation and not having our other important issues addressed at all.
Please join us tomorrow, Friday, July 24, at noon for a baginar for more information about the bargain and what you can do to help your WEASO bargaining team negotiate a successor agreement that meets your needs.  The call-in information is below:
