Your WEASO bargaining team met with management for another bargaining session yesterday, September 9, 2015. We still do not have a tentative agreement but are moving closer together on remaining issues that you have indicated are priorities, including workload relief and compensation. Specifically, we are still exploring the possibility of agreeing to a mechanism that would allow the two annual 1% “bonus” payments that have been offered by the WEA to be incorporated into the salary schedule if the Supreme Court rules in our favor in Friedrichs. With respect to workload relief, the WEA has agreed in theory to maintain certain staffing levels during all or a portion of the contract, but there are unresolved issues, such as the level of FTE that will be maintained, that are still being negotiated. In addition, we are working to reduce to signed tentative agreements those matters that have been verbally agreed to by the parties, such as additional RIF protections, including severance pay; limits on management’s use of electronic surveillance; and parenting leave for WEASO members who have or adopt children.Thank you to those WEASO members who participated in the Labor Day text blast–your words of support and encouragement kept us going yesterday! We also appreciate the councils and members who have sent us delicious homemade cookies, beverages, snacks and toys to keep the tedium at bay. And of course, a huge thanks to the Organizing Committee for keeping us caffeinated and fed on bargaining days. The Friday baginar will be held at noon, and we hope you will be able to participate.
